Angela Grout
AFS Author, Florist & Mom
West Springfield, Massachusetts
Hi! My name is Angela and I am from Western Massachusetts just miles from The Big E- New England's Great State Fair (3rd largest in the world!)
I am the mother of two daughters, author of three published novels, and a master floral designer whose hands have held over a million roses-seriously! I've been a florist for over three decades, and sadly I closed my business during the pandemic. I always imagined that I would retire to write more books, plays, and even a movie or two ,but I also imagined I'd sell my floral shop to another passionate florist. Obviously, 2020 was not the year to sell but as the year unfolded, I found myself without a staff for assistance, and juggling home virtual schooling and working late nights was a struggle.
I absolutely love working with flowers, the clients, and the messages which flowers bring. I miss the daily grind of the business, and I am mourning the loss, however, I am excited to have more time to write, publish, and produce my stories! This past year, I have had plenty of time to evaluate story ideas as I have spent most of the year on my couch-elevating and icing...I had a hernia repair, I ruptured my meniscus, suffered with a baker's cyst, and finally had thumb reconstruction so I don't have to incur cortisone shots anymore. There has been ice on a lot of my body parts, over the last 12 months as I awaited surgeries and recovered with rehab.
My goal is to be healed by July 2022- and writing with my restored hand by conference time! So if you meet me, shake my hand gently, as I am still in recovery mode. Doc says full recovery takes 6-12 months, the surgery was on St. Patrick's Day, so this IWWG Conference will be month 4 of restoring. I plan to write about all the changes my life as a florist and writer has endured at the conference, as well as meet some new friends in person!
I am super excited to meet Linda, Leslie, Dorothy, and Michelle, as well as all those I've met via zoom over the past few years. So excited to be part of this amazing community.
And if you haven't signed up to take Linda Bergman's intensive screenwriting class- DO It!
I finished a script adaptation for my novel APRIL RAiN with her during the pandemic. She is a great teacher, mentor, and flower lover!
